Sunshine After The Rain

There was welcome sunshine after the rain today. But not for the family of the young off-duty garda (policeman) swept away by floodwaters as he tried to warn motorists of a dangerous bridge or for the family of the Filipino woman drowned in a basement, or the hundreds of people whose homes and businesses were flooded in Dublin yesterday. Almost three and a half inches feel on the capital in six hours yesterday, equivalent to the average rainfall for the whole month of October. The city's drainage system couldn't cope and rivers burst their banks with devastating consequences. The Irish weather is often miserable but rarely so lethal.

Happy you got some sun, but I'm sorry to hear that someone died from the deluge.

Such sad stories, a similar thing happened to one of our policemen in Cumbria

Indeed a sad story. Nature can be so cruel one minute and so beautiful the next as shown by your lovely photo. V

So sad.

A beautiful image for such a sad story. It all reminds us to appreciate what we have!

a much brighter scene evident in Dundalk than in the heavily hit captial..the tragedies in Dublin are certainly disquieting...one minute you're strolling through life, and the next you could be struggling to survive..

That is very sad news. Nature is beautiful but it can also be so devastating. V

Hugely powerful narrative. Its hard to comprehend.
Great image of normality though, and better weather. I like the reflection in the puddle.

Hopefully things are returning to some sort of normal now...

Beautiful picture in stark contrast to the sad stories you mention.

That is very sad. The photo though is beautiful. The light after the rain is gorgeous and I love the reflection of the person in the puddle. V

A good time to be out, nice light and everything just washed by the rain!
