Dundalk has a very active Tidy Towns Committee comprising residents groups, the business community and local council. As a result of their work, Dundalk's performance in the national Tidy Towns Competition has improved vastly in recent years. And it's not just about picking up litter and keeping the streets clean, it's about pride in our built heritage and our environment. One of the projects which the committee has undertaken sees old photographs of streetscapes from the past printed on metal and erected on the street lights of a pedestrianised street. These scene is of the Market Square which is currently being refurbished. The courthouse with its Grecian style pillars remains pretty much the same as it did when this photo was taken in the late 1800s. It's also where I spent most of today, covering the District Court.
