Hottest Day

This was officially the hottest day in Ireland so far this year with the temperature reaching 25.2 degrees in Dublin's Phoenix Park this afternoon. It wasn't quite so warm here but it was still nice and a welcome
interlude before winter. I managed to take Fudge for two walks when I got home from work this evening, as well as a stroll down the laneway to get a shot of the sunset. There's one thing that worries me about my sunset shots - they might look dramatic but ...shhhhush...they don't look like this in real life. Any thoughts?

Glorious light and silhouette. Over-dramatic ... no! Anyway, for the most part we all show images of altered reality here.

The Golden Day of Dublin! Gorgeous shot in every way. I would rather change our 35 degrees C for your 25:) BV

Terrific!

A great shot, and don't worry about the real life part, after all you can't alter the exposure and white balance on your eyes, but you can in the camera.

Very beautiful tones!

strong comp and vivid colour...if such a sunset comes out a bit richer in the end, that provides more impact...whether the appearance is totally natural or not doesn't really matter..a boost in intensity can make a more memorable visual statement...V

Works for me Mairéad. Cloud or Shade WB will give that little extra golden look if that's what you're after and an f22 aperture will give you some nice sun rays. V

This is a beautiful photo!! I love the drama! V
I agree with Smit10. If you use auto exposure, you should focus on the dark tree and not on the bright sky.

To make images that look better than real life is what we all strive for. Exquisite!

WOW!! What a awesome scene. Great work.

This is a very beautiful shot, withe silhouetted tree against the warm orange sky. I usually shoot a couple with a -1 exposure compensation. It drops the intensity of the sun a bit and pulls more detail out of the clouds. V

Very nice sunset shot, great silhoutte of the tree, must be your camera skills and processing that improve the image. v

That's a glorious sunset image. I also find that often the sunset looks more spectacular on my screen than it did in real life. I kind of think of it as my camera is giving me a gift of a pretty shot to make up for all the bad ones I take! V

Lovely sunset.

That's a cracker, looks baking with that orange sky. I wouldn't worry what it looked like in real life if the piccie turns out like this.
Peter Stubley28-Sep-2011 20:29
Very beautiful shot -- nicely done.
Stewart Mitchell28-Sep-2011 20:26
Yep, it was hot here too! This is a cracker Mairead.....to your question I'd suggest that, unlike my cooking, a wee bit of under-exposure works wonders!!!!
