Fresh from the Garden...

just not ours. These tomatoes and peas come from a friend's garden and the supermarket basil is about as much gardening as I can muster on the food front. The recession has sparked a big interest in GIY or Grow It Yourself, with groups setting up around the country to help people who want to grow their own fruit and vegetables, whether in their own garden or allotments. Although we have a big garden we don't have the time or inclination to cultivate it, other than keeping the lawn cut and potting up some planters every spring. But I am going to enjoy cooking dinner tomorrow with homegrown potatoes, onions, peas and tomatoes from my friend's garden.

You have a knack for making a simple assortment of veggies and herbs a piece of art! V

You also have a Lab, which is the natural predator of the tomato plant. I think that anything which gets people back to the idea that food isn't produced in a shrink-wrapped state is probably a good thing. I like the way the background softness "fades in" on this one.

My garden is cherry tomatoes only - not all that much work and great to pick and munch fresh.

Wonderful colors and lighting in this still life. "V"
My mother and I used to tend a garden many years ago, and I have thought about planting one again. The climate is good for it here. We do have oranges, lemons, thai basil and rosemary, but only because they require no work.

those ingredients are all you need for a fine meal...in 1999 Hungary it was the same, many people eschewing flowers and shrubs in their gardens in favour of veggies and fruits, efforts stimulated of necessity by the depressed economy..a return to your roots can be healthier in the long run...

When we were first married a landlord tried to get me interested in gardening. He planted tomatoes for me. Well, he cultivated them, picked them and we ate them. So much for my gardening. A lovely still life with beautiful light. V
