Last of the snow....for now

The Big Freeze has given way to The Big Thaw. As temperatures rose
to a balmy 4 or 5 degrees, the snow melted, producing lots of dirty slush,
puddles of water and treacherous patches of ice.
I never thought I'd say I was glad to see the snow go - but I almost am.
When we on a national and individual level are as ill-prepared for the
arctic weather which descended on Ireland for the past two weeks, it's no
fun. At least three elderly people have died after slipping outside their
homes during this cold spell, so I felt guilty for delighting in the
snow. I am relieved to see a return to dull dreary Irish weather
as it means things will get back to normal. But it mightn't be for long
as more cold weather is forecast for the end of next week so maybe
we will have a White Christmas.

After I took this pic, the autofocus on my E P1 stopped working. I can
still focus manually but the autofocus keeps hunting and won't lock:(
At the very least it means a trip to the camera shop tomorrow rather
than Christmas shopping.

So near to monochrome. The color that is present really adds to the wonderful feeling that is present here ~V~

an atmospheric scene with the rising damp and subtle colours emerging thanks to the big melt...love the tangle of branches...V

Beautifully composed image Mairead! Love seeing the steam rise up from the snow!
Sorry to hear about your camera malfunctioning. I don't blame you for putting Christmas shopping on the back burner ~ must prioritize you know! BV

Those subtle colors and the low-lying fog make a wonderful image. I hope you can return your camera for new one!

A great shot! I really like the slight mistiness between the trees, looks like steam rising from the ground!! And a spot-on composition...V

I normally don't say when I vote on an image but this one is exceptional enough to warrant it. The sharpness of the branches against the softness of the mist and the subtlety of the colour mix, with only that reddish burst on the left and the park equipment on the right.
According to my manual specs the E-P1 should be good down to 0 degrees, so 4 or 5 shouldn't be a problem; but it may still be worth checking if you have any condensation issues with the contacts, ensuring that they're clean and dry. Got my fingers crossed for you that it doesn't turn out to be like my 24-105's issues (and the costs involved).

This is a splendid scene Mairead with the lone bench and the dash of red leafs in the corner.
Hope your camera will be OK and that there is a simple fix. V

Nicely seen scene!

I see the spirit of the snow rising like a ghost... maybe your lens has overheated in this tropical spell, put in the fridge for a while, see if that helps :o)

Well seen and done!

One of the best of the winter's images I've seen out of our cold spell. Well done, Mairéad, and I hope your camera shakes off its flu!
