This is the sort of little shop that I would photograph if I was on
holidays. I walk past it several times a week and have been meaning
to get a pic of it to post on Pbase for quite some time but usually
there are cars parked outside. This morning I just had time to shoot
one frame before a van pulled up and parked outside the door.
A family run business it was, as the sign says, established in 1916,
the year of the Easter Rising. To the front there is a small shop
selling sweets and gifts, with a barbers to the rear. Sadly, shops
like this are fast disappearing from Irish streets and are being
replaced by generic branches of multi-nationals. Walk down the
streets of any large Irish town and city and you will see the same
stores as in the UK.
