Our neighbour's pet lamb is proving a big attraction with passers-by, adults and children alike.
It was bottled fed so it runs up to anyone it sees and will suck a proffered thumb.
Today I was accused of being heartless for, after petting the lamb and letting it suck
my thumb, I stuck a joint of lamb in the oven for dinner. I guess growing up on a farm
means that I am not sentimental when it comes to the fate of farm animals. I do believe
in Compassion in Farming though and wish that farming hadn't become such a massive
industry. Our neighbours' sheep have a good life - they are the freedom to roam the
fields and mountains before the, erm, inevitable end which sees them ending up on
someone's plate with mint sauce.
The roast lamb, by the way, was delicious.
