The face of Irish towns and villages changed remarkably during the boom years of
'Noughties. As retail parks and out of town shopping centres sprung up, many
small independent shops struggled to survive. Now the recession means that
many have simply closed and 'for sale' and 'to let' signs dominate once
busy shopping streets.
