Down at the docks today to interview our local Green Party councillor
who has been appointed as a Senator.
As well as his work as a public representative he runs one of the coolest
music venues in the country and despite my cynicism I reckon he's one
of the good guys.
Although The Greens have been accused of selling out because of their
coalition with the majority centre right Fianna Fail, this week they showed
themselves to be an oasis in the murky political scene when one of their
members resigned his ministerial post when it emerged that he had made
representations for a constituent who faced criminal proceedings after
getting into a altercation with the father of a youngster engaging in anti-socia
behaviour. The TD in question also donated the payout he received on leaving
parliament to St Vincent de Paul, a charity which helps the poor.
