This great tit one of the regular visitors to our bird feeders but this week it seems like every bird
in the neighbourhood has made their way to our garden. The great tits, blue tits, sparrows and
robins have been joined by chaffinches, bullfinches, blackbirds and other birds that look like
sparrows but have splashes of yellow on their breasts.
With temperatures plummeting to minus 7C (19F) degrees overnight and the ground frozen
solid, there is little food available for garden birds. I fill one of the feeders with a seed
mix every morning before I go to work and it's nearly empty when I get back home at
lunch time. I'm experimenting with leaving different foods for them. The blackbirds
like chopped apples and I've got some dried fruit that I'm planning to leave out tomorrow.
