I've been thinking about all the different photographers there are here on pbase. The dedicated professionals, the enthusiastic amateurs. There are those who climb mountains, travel to far flung places and brave the elements in search of the perfect picture. There are those who trek after wildlife or wait patiently for birds to arrive. There are others with elaborate studios and expensive equipment. There are those who explore the creativity offered by programs such as Photoshop.
And then there's me. And I'm sure I'm not alone. I am trying to learn as I go along. This time of year I am lucky if I get a quick snap, like today's, taken in the few minutes between dropping my son off at school and making my way to the office. I am beginning to realise that I will have to get over my aversion (laziness?) regarding Photoshop, that I will need to start shooting in RAW and that I will have to find a way of shooting indoors if I'm going to be able to post a freshly taken picture each day. All thoughts and observations welcome.

You seem to do well at being 'out there', which seems the best thing for taking pics. You can set things up indoors, but I usually find that as long as you're outside there's nearly always a picture to be had - like the one above :o)

I never would have dreamed you didn't use Photoshop. Your images are so fine just the way they are. You don't need to do anything else.

A beautifully composed and nicely captured autumn scene. I enjoy all of your work and think it is more than good enough to stand on it's own, without post processing. I am still trying to figure out how to find time for shooting now that the days are so short.

This image is beautiful to those of us who don't see it everyday and who would have guessed your shots are so good without processing. Just follow your heart and the moment will come when you feel like tackling your project. I also have a lot to learn, and am waiting for a book which will supposedly teach me to use my camera properly. V

Your photos are beautiful without the benefit of post processing! I have Photoshop at the office and Photostudio at home. I like Photostudio because it is less expensive, easier to use and doesn't take up a load of space on my harddrive. Photoshop does much much more, but there is much more to learn. If you don't have a PhotoShop class that is convenient, there are several dozen "Learn Photoshop Online" websites. Perhaps that could be your project for the long, dark winter months!

another side of autumn...rich, low light and trees increasingly barren. I empathize with your quandry, as like you so many of us have not dealt seriously with Photoshop, and also need to find solutions to not being able to roam outdoors so often in the wet of winter. There are of course many opportunities for images indoors, yet it can be a more diffcult environment with the confined spaces, problematic light, and more mundane scenes instead of glorious landscapes. Perhaps it should be viewed as another sort of challenge, and one that must be confronted and dealt with.

I am feeling the same way and struggling to come up with a freshly taken PAD each day, I have now started to shoot more in RAW to give myself options but I too am useless at Photoshop. Nice autumn scene. v
