The Linesman

This bronze sculpture, by Irish artist Dony MacManus,
commemorates the tradition of docking in the area,
which disappeared with the containerisation of shipping cargo.
Located on City Quay, it was the winning entry in a public art competition
organised by the Dublin Docklands Development Authority
to celebrate the new life of the quayside or campshires, along the River Liffey.

Yes, a similar thing has happened in the area where I work. Good choice of angle in this; with the positioning of the worker relative to the fence it makes for a line of view running from the rope, turning at an obtuse angle, then down along the more subtle angle of the fence line. (Echoed by the trees on the left, with both disappearing into the distance.) It gives the image a very harmonious feel, each part leading on to another.

Beautifully composed. This is a fine tribute to hard work on the waterfront.

Composed perfectly, Máire, and the shallow depth of field brings out the sculpture well. Very well done.
