Trinity ( Copper Mine Ghost Town Since 1938)

Trinty ( Which is at the end of the Chiwawa River Road) was a large copper mine settlement and died out in about 1938, which was about the time " Holden" really sprang to life. Many of the miners bailed and left for the holden copper mine. Today m, not uch remains in Trinity , but a few cabins, one cool power plant built in 1928 which still is in use today, and a large baren which contains on old " Bowling Alley" Greg is the caretaker there today and town is in private hands.

I'm a little late to the party here, but this is a very interesting album. Great photos and history provided. a comment in this thread by Ariel way back in 2010 asks about some history. It was my sister and her 3 year old daughter that were murdered at the mine in March 1973. If anyone has any interest or more history, feel free to PM me. thanks.

Now, As Paul Harvey would say. I will tell you the rest of the Story. My father-in-law, Jesse I Smith bought Trinity in the late 1940, for taxes owed on it. It came complete with all the mill buildings, bunk house, commisary etc. We used it as a family retreat. There were 9 usable houses, some with full basements, wonderful bathrooms and enormous wood furnaces. Summers we would take our six children, 2 nephews along with a friend or two for each child. It looked like a children's summer camp. My husband Bill, used a small bulldozer to dig the ledendary pond, for a swimming hole. The Fish and game dept offered to stock the pond to keep all these kids out of the creeks. It was fed by a fire hose.(Yes, we even had fire hydrants.) There were several times we leased part of the property to various individuals for various endeavors. I think that is why some of the people remember it as if their parents or grandparents owned it. We did eventually sell part of the property to Two Rivers of Lake Wenatchee. They in turn, sold to the present owners. We still own the house you see in the pictures and an acre of land. Wonderful memories.

Great photos !! Would like to visit this goast town, but need directions. We live in eastern Oregon and love to visit this kind of sites. I am rebuilding a old mining town known as Dixie Town. Got a long ways to go. Howard Gieger

I used to vacation (trail ride horses) in Trinity with my family every year. I have old pictures of the Horse Corals that used to be at the end of the 27 miles or so of dirt road. My dad loved the High Cascades. There used to be a pond just over the (creek)bridge enterance and they stocked it with trout in the spring time and let us as children catch fish in it. The caretakers over the years became very familiar with our family and showed us the old copper mine. I never new anything about a ghost town but we were there in the late 1960's and 1970's. Thanks for the beautiful pictures and the great memories that they gave me.

Wow! Nice pictures. I remember visiting here as a child; my grandfather owned it for a while. I wonder what the future plans are! I've been looking all over the internet for information to show my kids about Trinity and these are the best pictures I have found! Thanks!
