Lake Chelan and Surrounding Area

Here are a few shots of my favorite lake and one of the most awesome places anywhere in the US. The Lake is the closest thing to " Fjord" like in Norway that we have in the states. Chelan is 55 miles long with the small town of Stehekin at the end which can only be reached by boat or small place ( or foot) . This is the most remote area in the lower 48.......

Born and raised in Wenatchee Valley, lived in Chelan a few years and spent time in Stehekin every year. New people, new businesses, and more to do than in the 1970s, but more expensive too! Drat! Thanks for sharing the great photos. They bring back memories and make me miss WA, central WA in particular.

VERY nice scenes and photos ! We (my parents, our family) used to camp on the shore of this lake back in the 1950's. That was well before the time of 'time shares' and all kinds of other invasive tourist money-making development schemes. Wapato Point, now a condominium resort type development, jutted out into the lake, covered with a large apple orchard which one would drive through on a dirt road, and this point owned by a native American family. Large poplar trees along the shore; and the the waters edge was a tangle of beautiful, clean, white driftwood of all sizes and interesting shapes to explore. Three horses roved freely around, and there were just a few camp spots where a four person camp tent (we had) could be set up. There were never more than two other campers when we were ever there. The days were hot, and late in the afternoons a wind would come up, rattling the leaves on the poplar trees, and the lake would turn a beautiful mix of 3 different blues. Very special, ‘undeveloped,’ unspoiled conditions there - those times were back then. Evenings were with a bonfire, and the sky shown bright with the Milky Way. Sorry, your scene here drug out some of my memories - and some of my viewpoint remarks. One would have had to experience this place (then) - to understand the differences of today’s time in comparison. Thanks for the memory revival.

Monte: Love your pics of the area. Great remanising. I was born in Wenatchee 66 years ago. Lived a few years in Chelan, including my first two years at the head of the lake at Stehekin. Had relatives in the Chelan area, so used to visit frequently. When time permitted, I usually worked in the apple orchards or packing sheds in the fall to earn school money. Thanks, again. Lee
