Cartagena, Colombia

The walled city of Cartagena. Cartagena was first established in the early 1500s by the Spanish.
Because the Spanish were plundering gold from the tombs of the original inhabitants
of Colombia, Cartagena because a lucrative target for English and French pirates. (Yes,
there really were Pirates of the Caribbean). In response, the Spanish built these fortifications.
However, they weren't enough to stop Sir Francis Drake, who took over the city in 1586 [Wikipedia]
