Interesting phenomenon
In need of larger blocks of ice for several days, I used various containers, the largest and most interesting one shown above.
Every time I used this (styrene) container, the ice formed with one corner higher than the others, even though the container
was level in the freezer. Of course I know that water expands as it freezes, but why does it rise in one corner?
In other rectangular containers, the direction of expansion is upward, and more or less even.
Why is this one different? Any cryologists out there?
