Results of a project to photograph moths attracted to a UV light in the yard at the edge of the flood plain in Bartlesville.
Because of variations not all identifications are sure to be accurate. Links to references are included with the captions.
Thanks especially to Bob Patterson of the Moth Photographers Group who has helped with some of the identifications.
There are about 1153 (visual and by DNA) identified species and about 213 (unique species by DNA) as yet unidentifed.
So far about 960 were new species records for Washington County ( Bartlesville ). Of these, about 462 were new records for Oklahoma.
Further explanation and a PDF file of the records by county for Oklahoma are here: Oklahoma Moths by County and Checklist of Oklahoma Moths Also, check out Moths of Oklahoma , Moth Photographers Group at Mississippi State U., and BugGuide.Net at Iowa State U.
The major activity since August 2008 has been participation in the DNA Barcode of Life for moths DNA , iBOL , BARCODE Bulletin and iBOL Blog My stuff is here: OK Moth DNA DNA sequencing is complete for 4745 specimens. There has been identification of 969 species. About 192 others are only identified at the genus or other level.
The free barcoding ended for me in May 2012 but identifications continue to appear as experts analyze the data and paying customers submit specimens.
