Dead Santa Fe Locos

Galveston Island, Texas

BNSF Railroad owns large tracts of land near the Port of Galveston, including the area where these locomotives are being stored.
Some of these are going to be sold to other countries and shipped off, while others will be sold for scrap.
Burlington Northern Railroad merged with the Santa Fe Railroad in 1995, so these two engines in the foreground are older than that.
They never got the new paint jobs with BNSF livery. The bright red Santa Fe color has faded to pink in the hot sun.

I love trains, nice shot of these derelict locomotives. The Burlington Northern Railroad has a long and interesting history in Minnesota, a direct descendent of the Northern Pacific Railway that was headquartered in St. Paul from 1864 to 1970.

It's hard to believe that 1995 is over 25 years ago now. Harder still to believe that such an investment in time, money and technical skill can just be left to age in the sun for a quarter of a century. It's an interesting story, though.
