I was watching folks dancing in the street for New Years. There is a dance step called a Gate.
Two dancers take inside hands. One, the gatepost, turns in a tight circle moving backwards; the other, the gate door,
moves in a larger circle forward around the gatepost. The gate figure usually ends as you started, with the gate door person
in the set next to the gatepost person.
The gatepost always supports the gate door person by offering his or her hand palm up.
