Solid as a rock

15 August 2004

117.
My prediction about the weather improving just in time for the schools going back is turning out to be true! Tomorrow is the last day of Liam's summer holiday, and, unfortunately for him, it will be spent trying on his uniform, and shopping for new shoes and a schoolbag. Today, however, we decided to make the most of the sun and head over to Balmerino, which is a very small village on the Fife side of the River Tay, and which boasts the remains of an old Cistercian abbey (founded in 1229) and a Spanish chestnut tree that was planted during the 15th century (apparently it is the oldest chestnut tree in the country). After the kids got bored of not being allowed to climb over the abbey's crumbling masonry we went for a walk along the little beach, which was much more their liking.

That lichen's really pretty; apparently it denotes clean and unpolluted air.

Don't quit your day job Stewart (LOL), but you are a GREAT tour guide of your country and region. I appreciate both the personal stories and the links. Does Liam go away to school?
