We went to Edzell today to visit the castle. Edzell is a lovely little Angus town about 30 miles north of Dundee. It is where I held my first conference (The Last Empire: 25 Years of Portuguese Decolonisation) This is what's left of the castle's main staircase. After Edzell, we drove to Brechin then Kirriemuir (birthplace of Peter Pan author, J. M. Barrie), and from there we went past Glamis Castle (birthplace of the late Queen Mother) and Alyth. We had a lovely meal in an inn just outside Newtyle. Another brilliant day with my family in the Scottish countryside. I am truly blessed.

I would love to be able to go out into the countryside and tour ancient castles. How romantic! You live ina beautiful country, with an amazing heritage. This photo has a dramatic perspective, and an interesting subject.

I like this shot -- nice angle. I went to England to see your castles, and came away loving your trees... They're so cool looking in pictures, but I found them imposing 'in person'. Of course, I went after tourist season was over, and was all alone in these windswept, formerly blood-drenched places...perhaps that had something to do with it.
