Caipirinha and Vinicius

27 June 2004

68.
I love bossa nova, and I love caipirinha. Last night, Linda and I sat drinking the latter whilst listening to the former - Vinicius at La Fusa. Óptima!! It was a close run thing between this and just the caipirinhas. Did I make the right choice?

Two very beguiling images..tempting. But it begs the question where do I find cachaca?...In Hatfield? ....At this hour? !

Any Caipirinha left ?
I love that drink.
Very nice and "sunny" picture.

Absolutely the right choice. I like this one because just from looking at it you get the sense of two mutually enjoyable activities; there's more interest to it. And the lighting is perfect. Well, I'm off to purchase some limes!!!

I prefer this image. I really like the greenish cast from the drink and the soft tones. Very well done image.

Caipirinha (pron. kai-pih-reen-yah) is a Brazilian drink. To make it you need 1 lime cut in quarters and placed in a heavy base lowball tumbler, add two teaspoons of sugar to the limes, pour in aguardente da cana (distilled sugar cane, aka cachaça) to taste, fill tumbler with crushed ice, stir then drink through a straw. Absolutely gorgeous stuff. If you don't have cachaça, you can use vodka to make caipirosca - it is similar, but not the same. Bossa nova is a type of Brazilian music devised by Tom Jobin and Vinicius de Morães during the late-1950s. Perhaps the most famous bossa nova tune is Garota de Ipanema , which Frank Sinatra sang in English as The Girl from Ipanema . Another famous bossa nova tune was used in the Nike advert in which the Brazilian football team were playing footie in the airport: that song was called Mais que Nada ( More than nothing ). Hope that helps!
