Our house backed on to the canal bank. I spent many happy hours there as a child bird-watching. The magazines made great hides!

I always wondered what the purpose of this canal was. It went from nowhere to nowhere. I researched it on line and it turns out to be the "Queenborough Lines" A Napoleonic defence work that includes the magazines along the bank. If you look closely at the back side of the bank you can make out the firing step at some points.
