One Mile Lake, Marbles

Marble Mountain Wilderness

Marble Mountain Wilderness, west side. Nice vintage camp with tarp and Kelty Serac pack. I was visited by a bear this moonless night digging into a log only a few feet away from me. I didn't have a flashlight, but when I rolled over to pick up my Buck Ranger knife, the bear ran off.

Decades ago while bicycle camping in Jasper, Alberta in a car camping area (think wildlife free food scavenging zone) I sleept under the stairs while digesting my two restaurant dinners.
Late at night a bear apparently smelled one of the 2 meals I simultaneously devoured at a local restaurant down the hill from the walk-by culinary food stop.
So the said bear came and investigated closer.
I awoke while his nose was above mine.
I like quickly awoke, yelled, got up and positioned the picnic table between me and the intruder.
A bit later in time he ambeled off to another campsight.
So I settled in for the night.
For some reason I went back to sleep and awoke to tell this story a few decades later.
