The miles and miles of incredible trail construction through Brown Mtn's huge basalt lava fields is covered with the red cinder surface on this stretch is an awesome section of the trail. I still wonder how they transported the 100's of tons of red cinders to surface the trail, let alone how they actually built this brutal stretch of trail in the early 1970s.
