Ed, I don't disagree that there isn't much difference except the obvious wider frame of the D700. The difference comes out in low light situations where the extremely good high ISO performance of the D700 comes out. The ideal situation is to have both cameras and use each in the situations where they have an advantage. Both of these camera are excellent and no one should feel bad about having either (or both ;-))

There doesn't seem to be much difference between the pictures that you have taken with the D300 and the D700. And, that goes along with what I have been saying. The D300 can take excellent pictures...so how much better than excellent is the D700. Given certain lighting conditions...better...but, I'm not paying $3000.00 for a D700, when I can get two D300's, with essentially the same electronics, for the same price and change.
