This boat ride was the first stage in a trip that I had thought about for four years.
My destination on the ride was the north end of The Goose Neck, a formation inside a
bend in the Colorado River, near Moab. Here's a view of the terrain that attracted me

To ride the jetboat I showed up at the office of Tex's Riverways in Moab on Sunday at
0730 and by 0815 was a passenger in a van that pulled a jetboat on a trailer. Andy the
driver/pilot drove me and a woman (who was going canoeing) to Potash, the site of a
boat launch. From there we flew downriver, stopping only to clear debris out of the
boat's engine intake (three such stops). Around every bend in the river was a new
vista of sandstone strata of varying colors and forms, topped by a beautiful blue
sky with nary a cloud in sight. Heavenly! My sense of anticipation steadily rose
as we put the miles behind us and got closer to the Goose Neck.
