This gallery shows what I saw as I entered Moab from the north on US 191. It was a late afternoon in April 2006, right in the middle of the town's annual Jeep Safari, a popular four-wheel-drive festival. Photos reveal all manner of four-wheel-drive vehicles either on the pavement or on trailers. For about a week in April Moab is inundated with vehicles with big knobby tires, roll cages, and heavy-duty jacks attached to roof racks. The closest I got to the spirit of this event was to use four-wheel drive once, briefly, in a rented Nissan Pathfinder.
