The high point of any trip to Utah is achieving Oneness with sandstone. This is most easily
accomplished in and around Moab, as the sandstone there has a very high content of psyche in
crystalline form. But all sandstone is "doable," so during a brief rest stop in San Raphael
Reef I sampled the rock to determine if a later, more profound, effort was justified. This was
one of those disappointing attempts, as I never got within striking distance of Enlightenment.
In later contemplation I realized my mind had been distracted by "psychic depressions" such
as Alexandria, Bellevue, Clear Lake, Houston, Portland, Providence, Putney, Saint Clair
Shores, Southern California, and Toronto. Concentrating on Notner would have been more
productive. Disappointments such as this make the successes all the more rewarding.
Joe Tripod, my photographic assistant, was more successful than I, for he achieved oneness
with the concept of perfect geometry, effected by the stance of this three legs.
