Starting point just north of Interstate 70

San Rafael Reef, Utah

Behind me is the object of my landscape lust: the reef. It is a series of tilted slabs
angling up toward the West, with each layer breaking apart, forming cliffs that present
obstacles to foot travel. My goal was to reach the skyline above me, but I got
"cliffed-out." The next photo is a panorama looking slightly to the right.

As with all my self-portraits, my faithful photographic companion (Joe Tripod)
made this picture possible. He can be seen at bottom left, "doing his thing."

I thought it was all explained in Reefer Madness.

Not sure, but the term appears here, in the section titled "Capitol Reef":http://www.nps.gov/archive/care/geology1.htm .

So this is a barrier reef? A little drier than most. It looks live you've exchanged one blue wagon for another. A rental car, I presume?
