IN MEMORIAM
Dan Dunn, standing, and his buddy George, are aboard the good ship Pandamonium, Dan’s sailboat. I photographed them in 2006 during a pleasant wind-powered cruise on the mighty Columbia River at Portland, Oregon. I stopped in Portland to meet Dan, one of my PBase contacts. He and I shared a love of puns and he offered me a sailboat ride if I ever visited. The river cruise was fun.
Also on board were Dan's dogs Chip and Misty. I had joked with Dan about staging a mutiny with Chip, a sea-faring dog who was ready to take command. Here Dan was thinking of the punishment he would administer for such an act. George is demonstrating his navigation skill by steering the noble craft while in a meditative trance: I swore an oath to not reveal what we rammed during his reverie. No one was injured and the sailboat limped back to the marina without a scratch.
Neither man is active on PBase any more. Dan’s account (username "dan_123") saw its last posting in late 2011. He died of a stroke in December 2011. His account endured for a while, accumulating a lot of spam comments in his guestbook. Then it then disappeared, probably when his subscription ran out. George’s account (username “warthog2100”) was dormant after early 2011 and disappeared in early 2014. The wording of a 2012 entry in George’s PBase guestbook led me to believe he had died. Happy sailing gentlemen!
