I could not believe my good fortune: the rock gradient had been improved by the cutting of steps, allowing me to descend with ease. Why had the steps been made? They had to pre-date the creation of the national park and perhaps also the national monument. No matter---they existed and I used them. This view looks downstream; my direction of travel was the other way.
