The road below is Shafer Trail. The part of it that is close to the precipice
(and deep shadow) provides the closest driving view of The Gooseneck and acts

Between the road and the vegetation-studded bench is the lowest portion of
Shafer Canyon, where Shafer Creek flows before joining the Colorado River.
