I recently learned that these installations are designed to tell blind people that a street lies just beyond the bumps. Even though their purpose is noble, I think the design is an insult to persons in wheelchairs and those who use walkers.

The bumps are probably to help prevent people from slipping on wet pavement; maybe the yellow is caution as in "watch your step". Just my 2 cents, adjusted for inflation.

Mark, sorry for responding so late. Were you complimenting the composition of the concrete or the asphalt? In either case, both seemed durable. I will pass your thoughts on to the construction companies responsible for the installations.

Those are bumps in the yellow inserts. But what is their purpose? It cannot be to make things easier for wheelchair users, as the bumps make the driving surface uneven. Methinks they represent another idiotic application of demented design by someone who has no concept of reality.
