What you see here is the result of extensive medial analysis of an otherwise normal image. The analysis came about because I was alerted to something out of the ordinary while driving down a highway in Washington State. As I approached a certain point---the location of these posts---two or three warning devices in my department-issued vehicle began to signal the presence of something unusual.
I stopped to learn more. After deploying the standard instrumants of analysis I noticed that the Hidden Radioactive Residue Detection and Imaging Device (HRRDIR) was registering strong signals. The readings of other instruments pointed me to the posts. To my surprise, the HRRDIR revealed that a residue on the posts was emmitting gamma rays inversely! This was alarming, so I notified Base of Operations of the situation. A crew was dispatched to take samples for testing. Naturally the crew members were disguised as highway maintenance workers so that motorists would not be alarmed.
Back at the lab, enhancement of the HRRDIR image produced what you see here. Imaging analysts are working with chemists to determine the nature of the residue and the manner in which is was applied to the posts.
