Gate 74 of the Utah Test and Training Range (UTTR)

Floating Island Mud Flats, Utah

All tire tracks led here: Gate 74 of the Air Force's Bombing and Gunnery Range (also known as
the "Utah Test and Training Range"). This point is very close to the Hastings Cut-off, the
route taken across the salt flats by the Donner-Reed wagon train party. It must have been
hell for those people to cross this landscape with narrow-wheeled wagons. This view is to the northeast.

In fact, wasn't it after this leg of the journey that George Donner uttered his famous quote, "Folks, the worst is behind us -- on to the Sierra!"?
