Hi Peggy,

I've not heard of any "accidental" record of hummingbirds in the Philippines. Most probably, what your friends saw was a sunbird species.

Here's my gallery of sunbirds for possible matching:

My friends saw what they are sure was a hummingbird in Silang, Cavite. They said it was only about 1.5 inches long, bright green with black and some red on its back. They said it had a long straight bill and did touch the flower petals, but hovered as it was sipping the nectar. I showed them these pictures of the Olive backed sunbird which I know is in this area. They do not think this is the bird they saw.

Have hummingbirds ever been "accicentals" in the Philippines that you know of?
