OK – let’s just get this said right from the outset. There can be no room for ambivalence here, no sitting on the fence, it’s time to get behind the Lilywhites and make sure that we win today’s League Cup final. I won't stand for any "I'm a neutral" stuff, let's just make sure Chelski get a thumping.
It’s nine years since we won a “proper” trophy (I’m sorry but I don’t really count the Peace Cup as a proper trophy) and on that occasion, I was there at the game and had quite simply the most fabulous day, probably beaten only by the famous “Ricky Villa” FA Cup final replay, which I also went to.
This year, the price of being in Cornwall and therefore no longer being a season ticket holder at the Lane has meant no ticket for me for today’s game. Sarah, Olly, Bondy and the rest of the DSHM will be there though and they will be cheering on the boys on our behalf.
Not that we won’t be cheering them on from the comfort (however comfortable, I’d still much rather be there in person) of our own sofa, waving our flags, wearing our team shirts, the lucky hat, lucky pants.
The preparations have already begun with the first cup of tea of the day from the Spurs mugs. We’re already in our gear and my stomach is in knots.
Last time I suggested we were the underdogs going into a game, Olly ticked me off and said never to say that. To be honest, I feel that again today although having recently (last season) beaten Chelsea in the Premiership and beating them 5-1 in the League Cup semi-final in 2002, I’m hopeful that tonight at 5pm it’ll be Ledley who lifts the cup.
So, all together now “Come On You Spurs”.
