31st December 2007 - fade away....like a bad smell

Another limited thought crappy lensbaby shot to end the year.

OK – so in a final grand act of self-flagellation, I have agreed to spend this evening with a crowd of people who I really like but the downside is it’s an evening of wee (yes, I know it’s officially Wii but to me it’ll always be No 1s). Boy oh boy I can’t wait (she says with her tongue planted firmly in her cheek). Much as I like the company of our hosts, the evening’s content leaves me cold, even if it’s all warm and wet to everyone else.

I suppose in a funny sort of way it’s a fitting ending to a year that’s provided me with more than I consider to be an appropriate share of No 2s. It’s certainly safe to say that the sooner this year fades into gloom the better as far as I’m concerned.

Last year’s promises to myself were:

1. Get a couple (or three) point-of-lay hens to rebuild my tiny flock, after a loss last year and an inevitable loss in the coming weeks – not done because amazingly Milly lived on and on throughout the year with amazing tenacity and will. We finally lost her on 23rd December so we’ve held off getting the new hens until now. I’ve been researching rare breeds and have made some contacts this week so “watch this space” for early 2008!
2. Make sure I contact those feature editors with my feature idea that’s been on my mind – failed on this one too and surprisingly because I think it’s an obvious thing to do no-one else has thought of it either so I may just put this one back onto the agenda for early 2008.
3. Ring the builder’s yard to find out the price of scaffolding planks – I need them for the beds in my new, expanded veggie garden. Done with knobs on – veggie garden in, now in second season – got all the beds dug over and newly planted spring cabbages, kale and broccoli in a couple, next year’s onions and garlic in another, broad beans in another and we’re harvesting leeks at the moment too. I’ve been working on my planting ideas for 2008 and am hoping for better weather this coming year. The scaffolding planks have also made a fabulous raised herb garden too, that’s planted with perennial herbs now.
4. Pull up the heather and plant suppressant in the bed on the ‘main’ lawn and plant it full of roses and lavender. Done!
5. Get out and about with my precious babies and see more of this amazing place that we live in. Hmmmm – this one has been a disaster really until I keeled over in November. Since then, I’ve actually done quite a lot of walking with the dogs so it’s ironic that my professional downfall has brought about a personal goal.

Looking back, we didn’t think we’d get the field sorted or planted this year so that’s been a bonus and the fact that we finally now have a very comfortable sitting room is a huge boost to the spirits.

Where to in 2008? Got some plans – if I’m feeling bullish tomorrow I may reveal all……!!!!!

So, think of me later – you’ll all be partying and I’ll be huddled in a corner while DM and our friends play with something deeply unsavoury! I REALLY can’t wait for 2007 to fade away like a bad smell.

Last year, I was accusing the good people of Truro of being foot fetishists!

Nicky said it beautifully... (but I can't believe she's having a "quiet night in"...!) Don't look back, embrace the new year and make it yours, my friend ! xx

I'm having a quiet night in, but I'll be raising my glass to you, and to my other Pbase friends as well as my family. Thanks for your friendship and I truly hope 2008 is a far better year for you & that your plans & dreams come to fruition! xx

I've vaguely heard of a Wii, but like you I'm more familiar with a wee! My only goal in 2008 is to be happy and if I can achieve that, I think other things can fall into place.
Take care of yourself - I'll be watching Jules Holland on TV when the Big Boss hour comes....
Be good to yourself in 2008:)
