9th November 2007 - up in the air

I have had a feeling today as though I’m floating around in the air – truly – that’s not just crow-barred in to get my picture tied up with my words. I had a very late night. I am the one who “puts out the cat, the milk bottles and the lights” at our dos because I always stay close by so I get to be the last one there, seeing off the last of our guests before getting to go back, kick off my kitten heels (I so hate wearing heels these days) and falling into bed.

I stayed in a budget hotel last night. I can’t justify staying at the Savoy itself and it was about a fifteen minute walk from the Savoy, through the heart of London’s theatre land although to be honest, by 1am, there are not too many folks still around who’ve been to the theatre. I had a heavy bag and it felt like a long way.

So, my weary (and if truth be told, slightly squiffy) head hit my cheap pillow at around 1.30am. Urgh.

When I got up this morning, in bags of time to catch my train, I took my laptop out of my handbag (yes, I do the same BAD stuff with my laptop that I’ve always done with my cameras) and discovered that there was no camera there! Oh no. I’ve lost it. I had a double flip of the stomach, checked everywhere in the room in case I’d actually been squiffier than I’d thought and put the camera somewhere else when I’d got in. When I did not find it in the second search, I flung on my clothes and dashed back to Simpsons, where my camera was sitting on the podium where I’d left it last night. Phew. Double phew.

As I came out of the restaurant, I looked up at the glorious blue sky, saw several cranes about their business glinting in the sunshine and thought they’d be a good “bank shot” in case I didn’t get another photo op later. Then I realised these bonkers chaps were on the crane arm, some hundred feet or so in the air above the junction of Aldwych and the Strand - anyone who knows London will know that that's a busy junction to be dangling above, so I thought I’d “do that” instead.

So, I am airy-fairy because I was up too late and I had a few glasses of red stuff. But s’okay – I’m HOME now.

Last year, I was playing with my new toys again and loving it.

If they fall off its not going to matter whether its a busy intersection or not.

I wonder if they took any shots from that view point? LOL
