OK – I know some (perhaps many) would say that I am harping on a bit about the Martin Jol debacle at Spurs but I am even more upset today – not less so. I know that at the end of the day, when we take the pitch at the weekend against Blackburn I’ll still be there (in spirit at least), still wearing my shirt and still cheering on my boys but I think this whole thing is stinking more and more.
You see if the BBC’s website is to be believed and I see no reason not to believe them, then the decision was taken by the board before kick off last night, with Jol and Houghton being told after the game. If so, then this means that without doubt, someone on the board deliberately leaked the story either just before or during the game. This has to be so for the news to have broken during the match.
At one point, Levy is clearly shown to smirk as someone whispered in his ear towards the end of the match. Given that we were losing by then, this can’t have been at a happy scene on the pitch.
So, we have a board that approached a manager from another club only days into the new season and with no idea at that point that results would go badly. Not only that, but they made it completely public that they didn’t think Jol was up to the job. Worse still, they fired him by leaking the information to the press and the media before the man was told. Interestingly today, I got an email from the club and they didn't even think to mention to their supporters that they'd just unceremoniously dumped the manager - all it was doing was trying to make me buy stuff from the shop. Very nice tactic guys.
Nice one Cyril as they say – that really is behaving with honour isn’t it? What sort of man does that make Levy? Hmmmm…….let’s just say, I’m glad not to be his wife because if he craps all over his manager like that, then I’m sure he’s also not someone who’d think loyalty in any other area would be important.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Spurs – but I loathe these wealthy club owners that the sport seems to be breeding these days. I didn’t go a bundle on Alan Sugar as boss-man but he looks like an angel now compared to this shark.
Last year - I was on a wild goose chase!
