9th April 2007 - dead good

At long last, I’ve had the opportunity to get my deliciously turned wooden bowl into a PAD shot – I’ve tried before and never quite been able to get a shot I like with it.

This shot just jumped out at me while I was watching Watford beat Pompey on the telly at lunchtime. I wouldn’t normally watch such a match but I do have a soft spot for Watford, having spent quite a few fun-filled afternoons at Vicarage Road in my mis-spent yoof and so when they were popping them past Pompey, who I also like and in normal circumstances wouldn’t want to see beaten, but on this occasion, if they had won it would have meant we’d drop a place in the table so I’m afraid (sorry Ewan) that I was happy to cheer on Watford.

The bowl was on the windowsill, a couple of camellia heads had dropped from the vase on the windowsill into the bowl and the image was so good, I decided that it would get shot!

As I’ve said many times, there is nothing like real wood and this little shallow bowl is a beauty, bought for me for my birthday at Heligan, a place where a girl can fondle as much wood as she can get her hands on!

Given that much of the day has been spent doing gardening things, lots and lots more planting, I thought a shot of some dead camellias from the garden would work a treat as a symbol of my day. I don’t feel at all guilty about cutting a few blooms from the camellias, they are absolutely dripping with flowers at the moment and half a dozen blooms makes no difference to the overall appearance of the bushes.

Colin has gone home today, after his three days with us have passed in a complete flash. You couldn’t say that we’ve filled our days with thrillingly exciting things for him to do but I know I’ve had a brilliant time, dead good in fact, pottering around on the moor, the beach and in the pub and I hope he has too.

I was making pasta last year, at the end of my holiday from work....funny how what goes around comes around and I am in EXACTLY the same situation today!
