7th October 2006 - if you go down to the woods today....

For some reason (probably our first wine in several days) we had a brainstorm last night and decided to set the alarm for early this morning to go to Golitha (Go-Lytha), our local waterfalls on the river Fowey (for the uninitiated it’s pronounced Foy).

It was a beautiful still morning and the valley where the falls are is very shady for most of the year so everything is covered in a blanket of moss that’s the most luxuriant shade of green you can imagine.

The falls are often quite busy in the summer, with lots of visitors but today we had the place to ourselves and as we’d taken lots of equipment (I had all my lenses AND my tripod with me) it was probably a good thing.

The sun started to poke through the leaves of the trees while we were there and this shot of fallen beech leaves and nuts, with a mushroom of some sort poking through it was a really good summary of the sights we were seeing.

Archie had a complete ball, despite falling into the raging river at one point. Rosie was her usual mad self and we were home by 10am – that’s just about a first for us.

Now I am flying my fingers over the keyboard trying to catch up with my postings before going out to meet Becks and Iain for supper in the pub where the girl who moved into our old house’s sister is the landlady….Emily may even be there herself. I am looking forward to this a great deal!

As the inimitable Hilda Ogden might have said - I had a murial as my subject last year!

What a lovely winter arrangement! Great lighting too, but it would be at that time of the day! Well done for getting up so early to take pics ... I've yet to manage that! ;o)
