I have now worked myself up into such a frenzy about tomorrow that I am at once nervous, sick, shaking and most of all deeply tired.
So, I’m doing my best to deny that tomorrow is only a few hours away and that I’m here in London for one reason only – to go out for a nice meal with some colleagues (though why I’d want to do that when I could be at home with DM I don’t know) and to enjoy(!) staying in a swanky hotel – another ‘why’?
I suppose the truth is that I’m just doing an ostrich.
Here is a photo, therefore, of something REALLY important to me – yep – it’s a crummy pub in Fulham. BUT it’s the Golden Lion (now known as Hey Havena or some such nonsense). Why’s it important to me? Well, it’s where I spent a whole lot of my mis-spent yoof.
Here is where I saw the ‘Cotton Buds’ (alias the Q-Tips) on the night that Paul Young told me that he was really excited to have done the backing vocals for ‘Black Coffee in Bed’ – the Squeeze song, with Elvis Costello along side him ‘no milk and sugar’ ‘do dooo’.
You have to have been there!
I had the best times of my life in this pub and others just like it. Most are no longer live venues but that doesn’t mean they’re not imprinted on my heart like every good life experience should be.
My world is a mix of the wonderful and the terrifying. This, now, is the terrifying, that was the wonderful. I wouldn’t swap it for all the tea in China.
A great image last year!
