# …… When this old world starts getting me down
And people are just too much for me to face
I’ll climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares just drift right into space
On the roof, it’s peaceful as can be
And there the world below don’t bother me…..#
This song is so appropriate for Iain – he’s ‘up on the roof’ of his home, replacing an ancient leaky one for a brand new one. He’s been at it for a fortnight and has done about half of the new roof, though he’s about 2/3 of the way there in terms of work because he’s had to remove the old before starting the new.
He’s very fed-up at the moment and is worrying about all sorts of stuff - people really do seem to be too much for him to face, so DM has been helping him, yesterday nailing on slates and today cutting them so that Iain can work more quickly to finish off that side of the roof.
I sat in the garden with Becks and Greg watching from a safe distance! (I hate heights.)
There has been a lot of heckling from the neighbours, lots of willing hands to help with the job and even though Iain is thoroughly sick of it, he’s broken the back of it now and he’s grateful for the help.
I learned something today – when I wanted to use the quote from the Drifters classic and I looked it up on google. It’s not a Drifters song at all – it was written by Carole King apparently! So, there you go, a bit of trivia that just might pop up somewhere on the way.
There are moments when you wish for all sorts of things, today I'm wishing I'd not given up that beautiful kitchen!
