Yesterday, while I was sorting out ‘stuff’ when we were getting things back in shape after this bout of home-destruction, I decided to sort my records out because they’d become muddled during the move and if there is one thing I hate, it’s not being able to put my hands on something I love…..after my revelations about DMs anal streak yesterday, I thought I’d share one of mine today. The difference between his and mine is that he’s anal about something he can actually use – I’m anal about something that even if I can put my hands on it, I can’t use it because we don’t have a record player set up and working and we won’t until the rewiring has been completed, which will be sometime in the not-too-distant future I hope.
So, I can’t play them but it still grieves me if I can’t pull out an album or single that I want to reference without searching the whole lot. Alphabetical order in these matters is then, very important to me.
This blathering is leading up to the fact that I pulled out Adam Ant’s ‘Viva Le Rock’ album and was inspired to do a similarly posed shot of DM who is, after all, my very own Adam Ant Rock God. I thought I’d never get him to agree to lip gloss and showing his nipples so I settled on this less-flamboyant get-up. He chose the guitar he wanted to pose with when he realised I wasn’t going to buy him a Gretsch semi-acoustic for the shot.
Now I have the album in front of me ( I foolishly didn't take it across to the studio and it's chucking down here so didn't fancy going back for it) so I can tell you that shot was by Nick Knight, I can see that the pose is all wrong and the lighting set up is too. Ah well, I was quite pleased with it until I saw (again) how the original was way superior to my shot.
All of this means, I can hopefully persuade him to have another go at the shot on another day and maybe then I’ll get it right! Though on the balance of probability, most likely not.
Last year, I was photographing a dead bird-of-paradise plant - this year, chance would be a fine thing - it was one of the precious things I had to leave behind in Sandhurst when we moved.
