Although we’ve had some excitement today, we’re both feeling a bit blue.
The excitement? DM saw a weasel chasing Terri (bottom of pecking order chicken) across the garden. We did have a bit of a ‘moment’ until we checked out some websites and it seems that weasels are unlikely to attack chickens – it seems she’d disturbed it and it was chasing her off!!! Mum – we’ve also seen LOTS of varieties of butterfly so just wait ‘til next week.
Blue? Well, we’re just a bit sick of builders. No offence to our choice of builder, two nicer men it’s hard to imagine. It’s simply that the place is covered in brick dust and all of our rooms are ‘out of action’ in as much as there isn’t one of them that’s in anything like reasonable condition. Yeah, yeah, I know, think myself lucky to have a bathroom....
There’s sewing machines and kitchen equipment all over the sitting room where they’ve come out of the big cupboard where most of the pipe-work and electrical stuff is. It’s (the sitting room that is) also a mess where radiators have been moved and pipe-work ripped out.
The dining room is full of tools and discarded equipment. Our bedroom has the contents of our bookcases stacked up all round the walls and my computer table in the middle of the room, covered in records. The den has its floorboards up, carpet up and tools everywhere. The spare bedroom has the contents of the airing cupboard on the bed, along with my computer and assorted office gear piled up on the floor (I miss my computer and hate using my office one for ‘home stuff’). The darkroom is full of junk. Even the hall and landing are piled up with empty bookcases, dog beds and stuff.
It’s all taking longer than anticipated – it was supposed to take a fortnight and that’s up tomorrow but they’re nowhere near finished. This means we're getting fractious - we even had a 'domestic' tonight when he went off to buy a loo seat, the last words I said to him were 'whatever you do, don't come back with an MDF one' and what did he do? Yep. Came back with an MDF one. Ggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrr
We’re just looking forward to having our ‘house back’. To a day when there is no-one but us inside our four walls, to a day when we can walk barefoot across the room without risking a screw or a stone in the foot. I’m still eying up my sparkly fizz bombs and hoping that I can use them sooner rather than later.
After they go each night, we go rushing into the room to see the progress and today there has clearly been quite a lot. The loo is in, plumbed and working, the shower tray is in, there are tiles covering much more of the wall surface and most of the plumbing in the new airing cupboard is done.
The trouble is there is still clearly quite a long way to go.
We were in there tonight, deciding on our ‘grand statement’ for the room and DM pointed this scene out. It’s very relevant – empty (Trago Mills) cups and downed tools – the end of a hard day’s work. Through the open window is the greenhouse, vents fully open!
Last year, I started my 10 great movies thing....and I've still never finished that one - just goes to show how I lose interest in things.....
