I have already worked five days this week (not bad considering I’m contracted to work three days) so today is definitely MY time.
How have I spent it? In the scorching heat in a field near Wadebridge! It’s the Royal Cornwall Show and we decided to remedy a hole in our knowledge of Cornwall by taking a trip to the show today.
The sun has been shining and I’d certainly have got myself burned if it wasn’t for a rare burst of forethought and an application of factor 25. Phew – glad I saw that one coming. Neither of us had any comprehension of the scale of the show – it’s huge. Liskeard Show, which we went to last year, could be fitted in the top pocket of this one! In fact, if you’d told me it covers half the acreage of Cornwall, after the miles we’ve tramped around it, I’d have no difficulty believing you.
Not that I’m complaining. We had a thoroughly wonderful time. So much so, that we spent much longer there than anticipated. There is so much to do and see. Animals, large and small…..the SIZE of those bulls (in every respect if you get my drift). There were tractors, new and old, traction engines – these were all old and very beautiful. Oh we’ve had such a jolly day out.
I even parted with some of my hard-earned to buy some turned wood in the craft tent and that sort of purchase is very rare in my world.
This shot is clearly of bees – taken in the ‘bee and honey’ tent, where shock-horror, the judges of one of the classes decided that none of the entries were of suitably high quality to win a prize! In fact, there was another class where there was a tie for second place and no other prizes awarded – how strange is that? I must be honest, I am a bit baffled by the prize-giving but it’s a fascinating read all the same.
I’m not sure this shot is my own ‘best of day’ but it’s of a subject I doubt I’ll get the opportunity post again so here it is.
Last year, I was lamenting my 'love marks'.....now there are MANY more where they came from!!!
