29th April 2006 - up on the roof?

This is a sort of Mary Poppins moment. In fact, I had a different shot in mind for my PAD tonight. I’d taken it but not processed it and then I saw this….

It puts me in mind of the bit in Mary Poppins where Dick Van Dyke is whizzing around on the rooftops….I’ve probably remembered that all wrong but it’s MY memory of Mary Poppins and no-one can take it from me SO THERE!!!!!!

Anyway, what it is is the roof of the ex-Police Station in Wokingham, with the crescent moon behind it. It can’t really be called a city but nonetheless is much more urban than we’re used to these days. The noise of the motorway is really noticeable.

This place links DM’s and my history long before we ever exchanged bodily fluids!!!! It hankers back to a time when I was very married and DM was a single chap and my best buddy (Claz)’s best buddy – complicated? It gets worse!!!

Claz worked for the railways in Reading and my ex worked in a record shop in Reading. She gave him a pass to park free on railway property (not allowed but who was to know?) His car (veggie – D474 VEG……a Vauxhall Astra that had once been my company car, which I bought from the company when it was replaced and Andrew, my ex drove it until, with 160,000 miles on the clock, it died and went to the great scrapyard in the sky) was stolen from the railway car park and then the shit hit the fan.

Claz got in trouble for letting him have a free parking space, Andrew couldn’t get to work and I got CROSS. While Andrew was lolling about, Claz and I were out looking for veggie. We searched all of Reading’s least salubrious areas to no avail. I had to go away for a few days and Claz continued to search with her other best buddy….DM!

In the end, veggie was found in Wokingham Station’s car park…..it had obviously been taken by someone who simply needed to get from one place to another though why they couldn’t have taken the train is beyond me. I had to go to Wokingham police station (pictured above) to stake my claim on the car and recover it.

So, Wokingham was playing a part in my world then and so did David. It took another fifteen years or so to get to the point where we were exchanging bodily fluids but not for the want of imagination on both our parts………

Last year, Heinz was my friend.

Gorgeous picture, but not at all reminiscent of Mary Poppins to me. My memory of rooftops in Mary Poppins is more like this -http://www.pbase.com/redtop/image/54212421
