….why am I soft in the middle, the rest of my life is so hard….(Paul Simon, You can call me Al)
Our Al is ‘soft in the middle’ – he’s a lovely chap with a heart of gold……though today, like the rest of us he was a bit cheesed off to find we were on the losing end of the scoreline. He is, like us a ‘traveller’, coming over 100 miles each week to see the Spurs. In this shot, he’s wearing a mask thrown into the so-called garden of the Bell and Hare by fans in ‘The Corner Pin’ – the pub next door to our favourite haunt of WHL. Even after a good few jugs, most of the B&H crowd counselled against donning the mask on the basis that ‘ew, you don’t know where it’s been!’ Al though, he’s made of sterner stuff and was determined to show us all how it’s done.
We’ve been to the footie today and although we all feel we played well, we still lost to Moan U who stemmed Chelsea’s Premiership Champion bid with their win….at least for now. Our boys did show plenty of character and gunk but we had our chances and perhaps it’d be fair to say that with more experience in the side, we’d have made them pay for a number of mistakes that meant we had a good half a dozen clear opportunities that we missed so the score ended up 1-2.
Today has been another slightly surreal day in our lives. I was on my way back from a ‘comfort break’ to the Dog Shit Hill Mob when a total stranger came up to me and said ‘you’re Linda aren’t you….I’d have known you anywhere!’ Guess what? It was a pbaser. Our own Ian Stickland!!!!
He’s a fan of said Moan U but his pal Andy is a devoted Spurs fan. They both go to both fixtures, as each other’s guests! Ian was pretty happy with today’s score.
I hope he was equally happy with the ramblings and other quintessential behaviour of the Mob late in the day, following a lengthy post-match sesh, especially Olly who did make an extra effort to be nice to the newcomers in our midst. Nice to have met you Ian. I hope we didn’t all scare you off from the B&H and more specifically the Spurs.
Ian you can show your mate that it was indeed ME who led the Mingay/Alstead household’s Spurs pash, by showing him this link….
